Outbound routes go right through the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana and follow the famous ma-10 road through forests and along the coast.

The main differences between riding to Andratx rather than riding back are:

  • You leave at your own time after a leisurely breakfast
  • You descend rather than climb the long side of Puig Major (14,5km)
  • You are on the coast side of the road so the view to the sea is always better

Here is a link to all our suggested return routes.

Pros

    • Leave at a time of your choosing
    • Can have a full and leisurely breakfast
    • Closer to the cliff edges for a slightly better view
    • Downhill into Sóller -14,5km of sweeping, swooping descent on new tarmac
    • Sea view for celebratory drinks on arrival in Port Andratx
    • Lots of choice of cafes and restaurants and bars
    • Finish your ride on a descent from Andratx to Port Andratx – about 6km gradual downhill
    • Sunrise on your back as you start the first climb away from Pollenca – Femenia
    • Ride the coll climbs from a new direction for a completely different experience
    • Looks and feels like a completely new route
    • It’s now a coast to coast: Port Pollenca to Port Andratx
    • Can add Sa Calobra in on the way out whilst legs are fresher
    • Can add Sa Calobra in on the way out before the buses get there
    • Covers the best part of the Mallorca 312 route
    • Good training for the Mallorca 312
    • Bus back is cheaper than bus out

Cons

  • Downhill into Sóller – this is only a con if you wish to climb rather than descend the longest and highest Coll on the island!
  • Have to meet the bus at a certain time: the solution is to aim to arrive earlier and enjoy a post ride meal and recovery drink in one of the many Port Andratx restaurants where you will be spoilt for choice.

Conclusion

The pro’s far outweigh the cons!

Mallorca Cycle Shuttle - 300+ scheduled bike buses each year to the start of the bucket list routes; Mallorca Bicycle Rescue in case bike or body break down; 365/24/7 Private airport transfers for cyclists and now the Sa Calobra Express for PB attempts with fresh legs.
