The brilliant Andratx back to Port Pollença route
What can I expect on my day riding from Andratx back to Port Pollença?
Riding the best route in Mallorca
You can expect a long and fantastic day on the bike, maybe even the best you have ever had.
The return route from Andratx back to Port Pollença is brilliant no matter which of the return routes you choose. There is an early start to meet the bike bus and depending on how many people have booked on the same day as you, you will either be in a minibus which has 14 to 18 seats, a larger bus with between 24 or 43 seats or on our 55 seater coach.
Your bike will be safely and securely packed between mattresses in one of our bespoke bicycle trailers. Our smaller bike trailers can transport 20 bicycles, and the larger double decker trailers which take 40 bicycles. With the bicycles being packed between mattresses, very occasionally some material may rest on one of the gear levers for all or part of the journey. This is fine unless your gear changing happens electronically, so please unplug the battery before handing your bike over for packing.
On our scheduled services, we only ever have a maximum of two pick up points. The time taken to get to Andratx is on average 75 minutes. Traffic is never heavy, but there is one junction in Palma where we turn towards Andratx that sometimes takes between 1 and 10 minutes to negotiate.
We travel only on the motorways as taking a trailer on narrow mountain roads can put cyclists in harm’s way. This does mean however that we cannot stop on the way to drop anyone off who does not want to ride the whole route.
Once on your chosen return route, you will find that there is climbing, lots of it but, very few downhills are technical so you get to descend as fast as your skills will let you so your average speed does stay quite high. The average time taken on the vanilla 115km direct return route is just under 6 hours plus stops.
You will find that there are excellent places to stop and refuel as the small towns are dotted around in such a way that there is one at least every hour. Estellencs, Banyalbufar, Valldemossa, Déia, Sóller, Port Sóller, the orange juice shack under the aqueduct at the Sa Calobra all provide everything you may need.
Other helpful Notes
We suggest booking what will be the best ride of your visit early in your stay as none of the return routes are easy and are best tackled with legs as fresh as possible and if by some unlucky chance the weather is not great for your chosen day and we have to cancel, you will at least have some time to be able to be on one of the rescheduled buses instead of losing out. Mallorca Bicycle Rescue provide a rescue service for those who have pre booked their cover. This is for when bike or body break down and should Murphy’s law decide to come and spoil your day, they have your back.
